In planning a wedding, one of the most important decisions that you and your future spouse will make is hiring a photographer or film crew. Even weddings put together with significant do-it-yourself efforts often turn to professional help when it comes to wedding footage, simply because it’s so important to capture all of the magic moments with the highest level of expertise. However, that doesn’t mean that you can simply look online or in your phone book and hire the closest or cheapest photography and film crew. It is still important to consider the hiring process carefully, and to choose a professional that is likely not only to take excellent footage, but to do so without disrupting the actual wedding.
Fortunately, there are a number of basic things to look for and questions to ask in order to determine whether or not a wedding film crew is right for you. Here are a few of the main things you’ll want to consider as you look at your options.
Experience & Reviews
Before bothering to look into anything else, it’s important to see if the film crew and/or photographer you’re considering has significant experience. If possible, check websites for the crews you’re considering to look at past events, testimonials and reviews from former clients. This can provide you with a strong sense of confidence in judging whether or not a crew is sufficiently experienced to handle your wedding with the professionalism it deserves!
Attire
It seems like it might go without saying, but it’s still worth making sure your film or photography crew is prepared to dress in the appropriate attire. Of course, tuxes and elaborate dresses aren’t necessary, but a suit or dress shopping trip to M&S might be in order if your crew isn’t already prepared to dress formally. Underdressed crew members at a wedding stand out very visibly, and can ultimately be a bit of a distraction.
Equipment
Most established professionals in wedding film and photography tend to have a set way of doing things, with all of the high quality equipment they need to take beautiful footage of weddings. However, particularly if you have specific film and photo demands, it can’t hurt to look over equipment yourself. It’s important to be sure that your crew will be able to meet all of your expectations on the day of the wedding.
Clear Expectations
Regarding your expectations, it’s very important to make yourself understood and to establish a sort of strategy with your film crew. This could mean a number of things, some of which (attire, for example) have already been mentioned. However, things like making sure your crew knows its limits in terms of things like mingling among guests are still very important. You may even want to make sure your crew isn’t planning on coming and eating all of your cake! Okay, so that seems unlikely – but it’s still worth establishing guidelines and expectations to keep photographers and people filming from being distracting or overly present.
Babac & Gemma decided to tie the knot at the wonderfully romantic Hole Park Estate. Their civil ceremony took place outside in the gazebo with sunny weather to boot!
It was a stylish affair with all bridesmaids & groomsmen dressed smartly in black, complementing Gemma’s beautifully sleek dress. We particularly like how these pictures have captured Babac & Gemma’s happiness and enthusiastic personalities on their special day.
When Russell & Jane and their adorable little boy came to visit us in our office we knew they’d look great on camera. From the pictures you can see they had a wonderful day filled with fun and family!
Their pictures show how having a unique and beautiful setting can really add to the value of the photography. I am sure they will treasure these shots (and the many others taken by us as part of their booking!) for the rest of their lives.
This Friday just gone was a very special day indeed for Zeenat & Assad as they had their civil marriage at Valentine’s Mansion and their Nikah at Lakeview Marquee. The couple couldn’t have looked happier during their ceremonies and celebrating with family & friends. See below some of the wonderful images we captured of their day:
Earlier this month we had the pleasure of photographing Fatima & Umer’s Muslim wedding reception at the picturesque Hatherley Manor in the Cotswolds. Bride Fatima looked radiant and wore a beautifully intricate dress.
Below you can see a few pictures of the couple and family on their special day.
Aatish & Amita’s Hindu wedding was filled with the kind of detail which is a delight for a film-maker. There were so many intricate details to take in that it kept us very busy filming them all. Take a look at the beautiful mehndi patterns which adorn the bride’s hands and feet and her multiple bangles which fill her wrists. The hand-strung flowers which adorn many of the guests – it is a rich tapestry of details which all add up to make the event such a special one.
Aatish & Amita’s Asian wedding took place at the Bhaktivedanta Manor Temple in London. The ceremony itself was filled with ritual and symbolism and will stand up to being viewed again and again over the coming years. After the wedding they retired to a marquee in the garden where they enjoyed a wonderful buffet meal and many photographs before being driven off in an oxen cart.
The entire wedding party then moved to the VIP Lounge for a celebration. This was a more contemporary affair with dramatic lighting against a white backdrop – which created quite a mood. Aatish & Amita were ushered in by drummers (after a change of outfit). After supper the DJ took to the decks as everyone took to the dance floor to enjoy themselves well into the evening. Congratulations to our lovely couple!
As the service ends and our newlyweds walk back down the aisle, there is no mistaking the smiles of pleasure and delight on their faces – it is clear from one look at Sarah and Ben how happy that moment is to them, and as their guests burst into applause, well, it was a wonderful moment. The light in the Teffont Evias Church in Wiltshire was clear and bright and made for great shooting conditions for their church wedding. It was such a perfect day and when we got outside the church everyone was enjoying the August sunshine so much that no one wanted to leave.
Lots of photos later everyone bundled off to Wilton House for the reception, where they were once again able to bask in the summer sun on the well-tended lawn of Wilton House (which has been lovingly restored and is quite a stunning location).
Once everyone could be coaxed inside there was a sumptuous banquet to reward them – and the interiors of the house were as beautiful as the exterior. Sarah and Ben are a great couple and clearly loved by their friends and family based on the entertaining speeches that were given. By the time that ‘So Sinatra’ took to the stage, everyone was ready to start dancing to his swinging beats. And they danced well into the evening. Our happy couple finally rode off into the night and it was the end of a great wedding. Well done!
Selena’s entire wedding party got the ‘red carpet treatment’ of make-up and hair specialists, including her young flower girl who delighted in getting her hair done. Selena laughed throughout – she has a wonderful bubbly personality. Selena and Peter had selected the Westminster Synagogue for their Jewish Wedding. Peter and his groomsmen arrived by foot, looking dapper in their suits, but it was Selena who made a spectacular entrance in a vintage Rolls Royce.
Their traditional Jewish ceremony unfolded to the sounds of a string trio – a wonderful romantic touch. After the ceremony our newlyweds boarded the Rolls Royce to go to London’s Landmark Hotel for the wedding breakfast.
Drinks and canapés in the large atrium were accompanied by live music – though at times you couldn’t hear it over the animated conversation and clinking of champagne flutes. Before their meal, our couple took to the dance floor for a traditional dance and to be carried above the heads of the crowd in their chairs. This clearly built up an appetite and a wonderful meal followed. To the strains of a live band, everyone returned to the dance floor to work off their pudding. Enthusiastic is the only word which describes this collective throng on the dance floor! We wish Peter and Selena much joy and happiness.
It’s a real honour for anyone to be asked to be a bridesmaid or a groomsmen, so it was no surprise for us to see the real love and camaraderie between Malene and her bridesmaids as they were doing their wedding preparations. These girls have a great sense of humour and they were constantly making each other laugh through the whole thing. Shariff and his groomsmen were also in good spirits as they went about preparing for the civil wedding service at Eltham Palace.
The actual service at London’s Eltham Palace was a classy affair. The palace, with its streamlined art deco interiors, created a wonderful contemporary mood for the proceedings. When Malene entered the room, you could clearly see that Shariff’s breath was taken away by how beautiful she looked – and the grin never left his face.
They took to the landscaped gardens for wedding photos and were blessed with beautiful August sunshine. While our bride and groom got their photos taken, the guests enjoyed canapés and champagne. After dinner, our newlywed couple took to the polished tile floor in order to dance the night away. Elegantly swaying to the music, they whispered in each other’s ears and shared some well-earned laughs. There’s no denying their day was a huge success and we wish them all the best!
